Petit attended the prestigious Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and started exhibiting his paintings soon thereafter. His work has been featured in major galleries around the world, and resonates profoundly with collectors in the U.S. as well as in Europe.
Petit labels himself as a ‘Post-Impressionist’, and imbues his landscapes and seascapes with luminosity and vibrant tonalities. The flowing shapes of clouds drifting in the sky or the reflective quality of water add rhythm and structure to his compositions, which are arranged around curving, exuberant lines that transcend the topographical elements in the work. The soft glows and mysterious shadows of forms add to the lyrical quality of the pictorial surface, imbuing a light and immaterial freshness to the artist’s chromatic sense.
