Lucien Phillppe Moretti

French Artist (1922 - 2000)

'Red Headed Girl'
Oil on canvas

8.5 x 10.5 in.

Moretti was born into a family of artists. He was first and foremost a genre painter, gracefully depicting colorful circus themes, elegant Parisian women strolling along the Grands Boulevards, lush garden scenes and intimate portraits of children.
Moretti diluted his paints to add transparency and light to the picture
surface, and used a palette of soft, pastel tones to create a dreamy, lyrical quality to his work. His use of light to dissolve texture and form is most effective in his intimate interior scenes such as a woman playing the piano, sewing by the window, or reading unobserved.
