Herve Avner
Herve Avner was born in Tunis and studied art from an early age at the Julian Academy in Paris. He participated in numerous group exhibitions since 1976, namely at the Salon d'Automne in 1987 and the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1989 where he received an Honorable Mention. His works were also exhibited in Brittany, Switzerland and the United States. In 1995, the Avner Gallery in Paris organized a one man show for him of works inspired by the Old Testament, reflecting a desire to reconnect with his Jewish roots.
Avner uses watercolor ,oil and gouache as mediums of expression, but he is first and foremost a pastellist. The influence of French Expressionism has instilled in his works a lyrical and harmonious quality, whereas the juxtaposition of luminous, complementary hues applied in curvilinear movements creates a bold, dynamic picture surface.
