Knecht started exhibiting his paintings at a young age at the Salon des Artistes Francais and at the Salon des Independants in Paris, earning acclaim and much success.  He was a master at depicting the Mediterranean coastline, using a bright palette in order to inject rhythmic energy and vibrancy into his compositions.  His works are illuminated by the vivid light that permeates the pictorial surface, and his mastery of color and tonal modulation adds a breezy spontaneity to his radiant compositions.
